Earthquakes, droughts, floodings. Mother Nature has its own ways. Every now and then, natural phenomenons may create havoc and suffering. Sometimes, mankind is to blame for a major humanitarian event. It's only normal that Platinum Airways would assist relief efforts.
Depending on the circumstances, relief can come in many ways. It may consist of flying experts to the affected area without delay. Or alternatively, shipping cargo may be the most important requirement. Whilst most of Platinum Airways' fleet would be perfectly suited for the job, we also have two workhorses at your disposal: the C130 and the Galaxy. They are available from our downloads page. We may well expand our relief fleet.
On this page, we will list all ongoing relief efforts. Relief flights carry the same bonus as DOTW missions. Remember to claim your bonus by ticking the Relief button when filing a Relief flight PIREP.

Fighting in Mali
Heavy casualties have been reported in clashes between Malian forces and Tuareg rebels near the northern town of Tessalit in the past weeks, Malian military sources said. The sources said a Malian army convoy, backed by helicopter gunships, was trying to break through rebel positions and bring supplies and reinforcement to a besieged military base about 7 km (4.3 miles) outside Tessalit when they came under attack. "What can be said is that there has been more than 100 dead, (on the rebel side) and 50 were taken as prisoners," one of the sources, a senior military officer at the Malian defence ministry said on condition of anononymity. The officer said more than 30 rebel vehicles were destroyed while the army, which was using mainly helicopters in the combat, suffered two losses.
More than 44,000 people have fled the month-long violence. This exodus could increase amid reports of fighting in areas bordering Algeria. Since clashes started in Mali between the Tuareg rebels and the Malian army in January, neighbouring countries have reported a steady influx of refugees. More than 18,000 are in Mauritania, 18,000 in Niger and over 8,000 in Burkina Faso. There are reports of conflict erupting in recent days in Tessalit and Tinezewadern near the border with Algeria, which might prompt more people to flee Mali to neighbouring countries.
We'll be flying relief aid to the airport of Tessalit (GATS).

Relief aid is being coordinated via neighbouring countries, including Niger. "As the influx continues, our teams are stepping up assistance for refugees who have taken refuge in makeshift shelters in villages bordering Mali," said UNHCR spokeswoman Melissa Fleming at a press briefing in Geneva. "Humanitarian assistance is all the more critical because the Sahel region is facing a severe food crisis due to several years of drought."
In Niger, charter flights took thousands of tents to Diori Hamani International Airport (DRRN), the airport of the capital Niamey. The airport complex also includes the major base for the Armed Forces of Niger's "Armee d'Air". The airport is named after Hamani Diori, the first president of Niger.
